TrustGroup's Jonjo completes Great North Run

A Bromsgrove man who has just battled and overcome leukaemia is celebrating after completing the Great North Run.

Jonjo Rooney, TrustGroupUk's Web Content/Design Editor was diagnosed with an aggressive form of the disease in 2006, and had to have numerous courses of chemotherapy as well as a life-saving bone marrow transplant.

Jonjo, 26, who divides his time between his job at Redditch Volkswagen and his charity efforts for Leukaemia Research, had stepped up his training in order to complete his latest challenge and received tremendous backing from people in the local area, such as his TrustGroup Uk colleagues.

Tina Croot, group marketing manager for Redditch Volkswagen, part of the Trust Group added: “We are delighted to contribute to Jonjo’s fundraising efforts. He is an inspiration to all leukaemia suffers. We wish him the very best of luck for Sunday.

He said he did the 13 mile challenge to raise as much money as he could for the charity, which provides research and treatments into blood cancers.  “The run was brilliant,” he said. “It was such an amazing atmosphere and was very touching seeing all the charities and lost loved ones that people were running in aid of, it was a very special day.

“I was also very pleased that I managed to hit my target and finish in under two hours (I finished at 1.58) which added to the whole experience.”

Jonjo, who did the race with his brother Darren and his two mates, added: “With regards to my sponsorship I’m absolutely blown away by the response I've had.

“People have been so kind and the support I’ve had has really been quite touching. I very much had this in mind whilst I was doing the run and knowing I had the backing of so many people along with the fact that all this money is going to help save people's lives carried me through the toughest parts.”
