The Volkswagen Golf GTI has always been synonymous with generating peak performance for drivers while keeping the timeless stylings of the Golf. To date, there have been nearly 2.3 million Golf GTI’s built which highlights its popularity and the next evolution of the Golf GTI is likely to make it even more popular. Volkswagen has unveiled the brand-new Golf GTI TCR.

The brand-new Golf GTI TCR is a special edition motorsport-inspired road version of the racing car that also carries the TCR name.  The Golf GTI TCR has been fined tuned to deliver peak performance allowing it reach speeds of up to 160 mph (optional) utilising its 2.0-litre turbo engine.  The new engine is able to deliver 213kW / 290 PS (at 5,400 to 6,400 rpm) which makes it 33kW/45 PS more powerful than the current Golf GTI Performance.

The Golf GTI TCR features a 7-speed dual-clutch (DSG) and a locking differential. Two additional radiators in the front provided additional cooling to handle the increased engine power in any situation much in the same way as the all-wheel-drive Golf R. The power and performance enhancements allow the Golf GTI TCR to complete a 0-60 sprint in just 5.6 seconds.

Interior wise, the Golf GTI TCR has been styled to give it that motorsport performance feeling. Top of the range sport seats have been fitted along with microfibre fabric covers that have contrasted striped seat flannels. The interior also features red stitching throughout and a three-spoke sports steering wheel which complement the brushed steel look to give it that authentic racing feel. The creature comforts are still there for normal driving with Active Info Display (fully digital instruments) and infotainment systems along with 8 loudspeakers, Automatic dimming interior mirror and Air Care Climatronic air-con system ensuring you can enjoy the performance in comfort.

In terms of exterior styling the Golf GTI TCR model comes with 18-inch “Belvedere” tyres as standard but 19-inch alloy wheels in “Reifnitz” or “Pretoria” styling are available as an option. The exterior mirror caps can also be given a customer carbon-look as an optional extra with TCR lettering above the sill. The look can be completed with the TCR logo being projected onto the asphalt when opening the front doors.

The Golf GTI TCR also sports a whole range of features including ambient lighting, front assist with City emergency braking system, LED headlights with daytime running light and automatic driving lights, Rain sensor and LED taillights.  Not only is the Golf GTI TCR one of the most powerful Golf GTI’s to date but also one of the most advanced models.

The Golf GTI TCR has been designed to give you the best performance and features regardless of whether you are taking part in a track day or heading to and from work every day.
