To date, the Passat has sold 30 million making it the most successful mid-size model worldwide. A fantastic achievement that cements’ the legacy of the Passat for years to come. The latest Passat (8th generation model), features a whole range of technical updates including a few design tweaks too. The new Passat was unveiled earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show.

On the surface, the iconic saloon and estate will be getting a slight redesign in order to bring it in line with the more modern Volkswagen design ethos. The new fresh contours re-enforce the expressive and self-assured look. An I.Q Light system will be one of the many features included in the technical update that will have LED Matrix headlights.

The new Passat will also feature some of the latest internal cutting-edge technology that Volkswagen has to offer. The third generation of the modular infotainment matrix (MIB3) will debut. It will feature App-Connect interface allowing for the integration of smartphones including iPhones via wireless Apple CarPlay.

The new infotainment system also has integrated online connectivity via an inbuilt SIM card as standard ensuring that updates and online content seamlessly. The digital cockpit combined with the new capacitive steering wheel allows for full customisation of digital instruments at the touch of a button.  When driving at night the digital cockpit and infotainment systems merge utilising illuminated buttons built into the steering wheel.

The Passat will also feature a range of other smart features such as the easy open option which allows you to open the boot hands free. There are also updates to Park Assist, Front Assist and Proactive Occupant protection systems. The technical updates are all designed to ensure that the new Passat can deliver on the requirements of modern digital needs today and going forward.  

Performance wise, the Passat will have a full range of options from 1.5 TSI 150PS to a 2 litre 272 PS petrol engine. For those who prefer using Diesel, there will be a few models ranging from a 1.6 TDI through to a 2.0 TDI 240PS engine. There is also a new range of options for the Plug-in Hybrid GTE model as well.

 

The changes and updates are also being rolled out to the estate and SUV crossover the Passat Alltrack. The Alltrack will have all wheel drive and have additional features included underbody protection and bumpers designs with off-roading in mind.  A special Off-Road mode gives the Alltrack greater ground clearance with permanent 4MOTION technology included. There will be a few performance options to choose from ranging from a 2.0 petrol engine to a 2.0 TFI 240PS with a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox.
