The results of the What Car? 2020 award winners have been revealed and Volkswagen has done extremely well this year with the manufacturer winning some highly competitive and coveted awards.
Last year Volkswagen took home the overall award for the Best Small Car and this year the Volkswagen Polo 1.0 TSI 95 SE was able to retain its crown in highly competitive Best Small Car category. Winning the award for the second time in a row is testament to the value of the Polo and its performance against similar vehicles.
Volkswagens T-Roc has undergone a few adjustments over the years and its starting to pay off as it picks up its first What Car award. The all-new Volkswagen T-Roc R 2.0 TSI 300 4Motion picked up the award for Best Sports SUV under £40,000. As the SUV market continues to grow, this is a great achievement for the T-Roc. Judges highlighted that the T-Roc managed to keep the sporty feel of a Sport SUV while injecting the hot hatchback performance to give it that extra zest. Given that the T-Roc can go from 0-60mph in 4.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 155mph, its no surprise thanks to the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine. It will be interesting to see where the upcoming T-Roc Cabriolet places next year.
Volkswagen’s Touran finally got some recognition in this year’s awards. The Volkswagen Touran 1.5 TSI 150 SE was highly praised in the Best MPV category for its performance and the combination of providing everything you expect from a good MPV with the comforts and tech that you would find in a new Volkswagen Golf. Flexibility with the inside configuration and engine performance (with or without a high load) were key to the Touran picking up the award for the Best MPV between £22,000 and £30,000.
Still yet to be released and made available to the driving public, the all-electric Volkswagen ID. 3 is already collecting awards and adding a second place in the What Car? 2020 readers awards is amazing for a car that we still know very little about. However, the ID. 3 is on track to deliver on long-range electric vehicles at affordable prices without compromising on new tech, features and style which has clearly resonated with drivers. The stylish all-electric hot hatch is expected to launch in the second half of 2020 and will mark the start of the Volkswagen ID range rollout that will include a whole range of vehicle models for different drivers.
In total Volkswagen have taken home four awards. The Readers Award for the upcoming ID.3 is a great achievement and highlights the growing excitement for the future of the upcoming ID range. Not a bad way to start 2020 and the new decade. More excitingly, there is still plenty more announcements to come later this year, so keep an eye out!
